Puja Ghar (Hindu Home-Shrine)

This series of photographs is part of an ongoing artistic research project that explores the multi-dimensional and complex dynamics of worshipping spaces within ‘Hindu’ homes – the Puja Ghar. A spatial distribution commonly found within interiors of Hindu households, the Puja Ghar is an innocuous presence and an integral part of everyday religiosity. It plays a crucial role in the formation and maintenance of the common-sense in the world of faith and worship. The emphasis of this photographic series is on the deconstruction of the common sensible, which at times gets consolidated, and at other occasions gets ruptured by the prevalent political (knowledge and sensibilities).

This series looks into the typology of this spatio-visual practice and in its initial phase of enquiry mainly focuses on capturing the aesthetical and its related iconopraxes, primarily in the Delhi-NCR region.
